After being down for a while, 4chan has returned online.
4chan has been on the decline since moot left in 2015, and hiro took over. The fact that absolutely no news posts have been made since hiro took over shows this evidently. What 4chan has become today will never be like what it once was.
4chan no longer has it's flash board, /f/. As someone who obviously has a deeper connection to this board, my years and years i've spent on it being partly what inspired me to eventually start my own website and start making my own flashes, the death of /f/ is a very sad, but almost expected outcome.
/f/ was already dying in its own sense, little to no effort in moderation on the board, the board having been left to rot with no updates. There was already a high chance that when/if 4chan came back online, /f/ would not make it, and today's blog post made by hiro has confirmed this, with it saying "One slow but much beloved board, /f/ - Flash, will not be returning however, as there is no realistic way to prevent similar exploits using .swf files"
My use of 4chan was already not like it was before, mostly using it just for trolling /g/, but /f/ was always one of my most frequented and most favorite boards on the site, and it is truly such a massive shame to see such a legendary board meet such an un-triumphant end.
While 4chan was down, I decided to explore other imageboards that I had not looked into much before, as the only imageboard I had still occasionally checked which was still around was mootxi.co.
Hiro has done nothing for 4chan, seeing admins actually interacting with people while exploring other imageboards is an extremely nice change of pace. /f/ may be gone, but I hope that we can see some of its culture continue to live on in the flash boards of other various altchans.
fuck 4chan, fuck hiro.
mootxico, lainchan, heyuri, and swfchan are my new homes.
